The first formal dialogue between Imran Khan and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa

“Our petitions related to human rights are with you. Kindly expedite the formation of a judicial commission on May 9 and schedule the cases regarding the historical rigging in the elections soon.” The former Prime Minister requested during the hearing.

Islamabad (News, May 30, 2024) — During the hearing of the NAB amendments case in the Supreme Court, the first formal dialogue between former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa emerged. According to details, in the NAB amendments case, the Chief Justice asked the PTI leader, who was present via video link, “Mr. Khan, would you like to present your arguments yourself or rely on Khawaja Haris?” To this, Imran Khan responded, “I would like to present arguments for half an hour. I do not get the materials for preparation nor am I allowed to meet with my lawyers; I am in solitary confinement.” Qazi Faez Isa said, “You will be provided with materials and allowed to meet your lawyers, but if you use the services of your legal team, then you will not be heard.”

The former Prime Minister responded, “It is necessary to have assistance from a legal person for preparation. I want to meet with Khawaja Haris and a couple of other lawyers. I might not get another chance to talk to you. My two petitions on February 8 and human rights violations are pending. One case is regarding the formation of a judicial commission on May 9. The other case is about the historic rigging in the February 8 elections. Kindly schedule these cases soon.” The Chief Justice asked, “Who are your lawyers in these cases?” Imran Khan replied, “Hamid Khan is my lawyer.” Qazi Faez Isa said, “Hamid Khan knows how to get cases scheduled quickly. Today’s case is regarding the NAB amendments.”

The founding chairman of PTI said, “This is a matter of life and death for the country. Chief Justice, there is a one-window operation in the jail run by a colonel. Please order him to allow me to meet my legal team; they do not let me meet them. I wanted to meet my lawyers before, but it wasn’t possible. Please issue an order for these meetings.” The Chief Justice responded, “We will write the order right in front of you, in which we will command that you be provided with all necessary things and allowed to meet your lawyers.”
